Community Outreach
Taman Petanu's Community Outreach Activities
As well as demonstrating sustainable systems and strategies within the Taman Petanu Eco Neighborhood’s built environment, starting in 2010, TPEN has been implementing a strong community outreach program, which to date includes:
Establishing a 'TPEN Eco Farm', which will work with local farmers and land owners to explore options for more sustainable livelihoods development through Permaculture training, organic farming and value adding of healthy products
Shutting down of an illegal dump site in our village, public education about wise waste management and strengthening of a community initiative for waste management for the village of Kemenuh
The 'Living Classroom' Environmental education initiative - currently underway in a local primary school, with additional plans for the establishment of a new Living Classroom Center, which will be located adjacent to Taman Petanu
Supporting the Kemenuh Cultural Tourism Village Program - for sustainable economic development of the area, activities include design and delivery of a public awareness campaign and pr tools, lobbying and public education to end the Paras Mining underway at the Tukad Petanu river bed, by increasing local livelihood opportunities through organic farming
During the process of developing the neighborhood itself we also do our best to facilitate discussion and empower the builders and workers on site to care for the environment where they are working through waste management training and other group activities
